Java is our three year old poicephalus, a red-bellied hen. She is a joy, she gets along with everyone in the family and doesn't know a stranger. She doesn't know she is a little "quarter-pounder". We like to joke that she perceives herself as a 500 pound gorilla.
The time we spent socializing and making sure everyone in the family is dedicated to her and both of our daughters want to be the one to "inherit" her.
We considered long and hard about getting a second bird and have been assured that our best result will come from getting another species from the same continent. We have also been advised that an African Grey is not so much a "touchy-feely", cuddly parrot and each of them need a different kind of interaction. We will be very careful with introductions and let the two of them decide what works best. Wish us luck and lots of patience.

Java is so sweet.She sounds like a treasure.
Thank you all for your warm welcome. While reading so many posts, I am impressed at how politely this group communicates, even when disagreeing on important topics. When it is time for Juno (CAG hatch date 5.18.09) to come home, you will be a lifeline. Already I have been inspired to start making toys just for him. I don't think any of my friends are as enthusiastic as all of you. That is only because they have never had a parrot. It takes someone very special to understand and create a bond with such a magnificent intelligent companion. Thanks again to all of you.
