How much fruit and veg to give my bird per day

Hi all, I give my TAG fresh fruit and veg every morning. I want to know how much is enough. He will fininsh whatever fruit there is, does not matter how much. Afterwards his poop is VERY watery. He takes it easy on the veggies though. I only give him his pellets from 1 pm and then I just make sure that his water and pellets is topped up throughout the day until sleep time. I also give him soft food every Wednesday and Saturday, I add Multivitamin, Minerals & Trace Elements and Pro-Biotics. So this happens twice week. I also give him different pellets every other day, just not to bore him. He loves almond nuts, he eats about 3 per day, is this good???
I give my bird boiled egg once a week + baked shell. Chicken bone once a month, and treats like yoghurt once a week. Is this method of feeding ok?????

And can anyone please tell me how much fruit I should give.

Hi there peyperj,
That sounds like a very good and varied diet you are giving your grey. What I tend to do if Beau's poos are a little too watery, is ease off the fruit & veg a little the next day and offer the egg, this should help. I give Beau approx. half a dish of fruit or veg daily, if he particularly likes what I give him it is usually gone by lunch time but I don't offer more until the next morning as he has his pellets and mixed parrot food if he is hungry. If you offer both pellets and fruit at the same time this might also help as he would probably eat them both taking in a little less fruit.

Have you tried palm nuts? Beau loves these and grey's eat them in the wild as they are readily available. I give these about 3 times a week, one lagge one or two small. If you offer a varied diet, go easy on the vits.

I would offer more vegetables than fruit, in fact you don't need to give him fruit every day either, they usually will eat the fruit over the veggies as it is usually sweeter but there is more nutrition in the veggies.

Otherwise it sounds like you are providing a varied diet. I leave pellets available at all times for my grey, she snacks on them throughout the day.

If palm nuts are not available to you then you can get red palm oil to drizzle over their food or mix in soft foods, it has vitamins in it and it helps with their feathers and overall well being. It is a staple of their diet in their natural habitat.

You may also want to offer the cooked beans, rice and pasta. I buy a bag of the dry bean soup mix, cook it throw out the flavor packet! Then I rinse the bean mix really good in cold water and drain add cooked brown rice and cooked whole wheat pasta. I divide it into containers that will feed my birds for 2 days and freeze it. That way I'm only cooking once a month. All my birds love this!

This is exactly what I cook for all my parrots but for each container I add a flavouring such as mashed sweet potatoes, banana, squash or minced apple or a pinch of cayanne pepper or garlic - whatever I have on hand. I save pieces of fresh fruit as treats for my fids while they are out of their cages. Yes, they do love fruit more than vegetables so I save them for "dessert."

Greetings..Everyone's advice is top's, agreed, the amount of fruit should be reduced..It is generally believed that if a Grey is on a good balanced diet, no extra supplements are needed,(vit's,min's,etc.)(palm nut's/oil Yes.)
