    Toweling

Has anyone been able to train their bird to be tolerant of any activities/exercises that revolve around toweling?

Our vet recommended that we should try to get him used to it because it will benefit Baby, ourselves, and vet/grooming visits.

He's going to be 2 in Dec. so I know he's still impressionable and can be taught new things.

What has your approach been to teach toweling with a bird that hasn't been raised with it or accustomed to it?

What you can do is play some games involving a towel, like hide and seek or peek a boo, make it fun so he gets used to being around a towel and then when the day comes he has to be toweled he may not be so afraid.

Oh the awful towel. I know the vet and his nurse are so trained to do this and it's like second nature to them - but I HATE seeing it happen. I know they have to do it - I wouldn't fancy a bite either - but it broke my heart when they did it to my tiel - I have Harvey's annual MOT to book for December and I'm dreading this.

Good tip Judy - I might try that with Harvey to try and ease the stress - mind you - if I've been in the shower and I have the towel on my hair he quite happily lands on it!

I always play peek-a-boo with Ana Grey with a towel. I throw a towel on her all the time so that she is not afraid of them. When I take her to the vet they always tell me what a gentle grey she is. I refused to let them put her to sleep when she was micro-chipped. Afterward the assistant came out and told me she was the sweetest grey they had seen in a long time. No screaming and fighting them. Was I proud of her.
