    Wasting HARRISONS

First off, after 20 days of food conversion, I have finally gotten Coral to exclusively eat Harrisons along with her veggies.

Ok, here is the bad news

I found this mess when I got home from work! I only work 8 hours!!!! At this rate, she will eat me out of house and home. I've been monitoring her weight so I know she is ingesting a lot of it, but is this waste normal after a conversion? Any Harrison users out there with the same problem?

Thought I would post this to let those that have followed my conversion thread know that with a little patience, their diets can be change.

Very normal !!! Rishi wastes twice that amount !!! What size are those? They look like the large size. Try the medium.

Oh yes, nothing unusual about that mess, Josey does manage to eat more of hers than ends up on the paper in the tray but she eats the fine, I think she wastes less of it that way.

Mine will not eat it, they would rather starve first. Fresh foods are what they get now with some cooked foods, home made birdy bread and a balance seed mix.

The bottom of your cage is my definition of "parrot pristine."

You have to kind of think about how birds behave in the wild and how they fit into the eco system: they grab stuff, haul it to some branch, take a few bites, then it falls to the ground to be gathered by other critters or absorbed into the soil.

When you realize this it's very much a Hakuna Matada moment. (google it)

    They waste a LOT!!!
dog barks! bird freezes and drops nutriberry!
car horn! bird freezes and drops pellet!
shiny thing! bird freezes and drops cherry!

What we do to mitigate the $$ loss is: feed smaller pellets (harrisons fine?) and ground veggies versus hand-chopped veggies. You'll notice a HUGE difference in wasted food. But, having said that, keep in mind what I said at the start of the post: their job is to feed the squirrels

That's nothing compared to what Cosmo wastes. I have tried feeding him smaller quantities more times a day and that does seem to make a little difference.
