    I Had No Idea...

so, it's been 2 weeks since we brought our new baby Squeaky home. As you know, it was rough going for the first few days, he got stuck in the break peddles on the way home, wanted to chew me up a few days later, but now he seems to have come around, and is the biggest cuddle bug ever! I had no idea it would happen so soon! Now if he'd only talk...

Patience, the more you talk and whistle with him the more he will pick up in time.

How often is it that a COG doesn't ever talk? That isn't a all the only reason that I got him, but it is something that I'm looking forward to, I've just heard that not all talk, although, he did bark at my mom the other day :-D

I think it is individual. I have two Congos. Sylvester makes the most amazing sounds, but does not utter a word. Poppy, whom I have had for only a week and a half, comes up with new stuff every day, in pure English. I am absolutely amazed. Give it a while, he may come around. I do spend a lot of time with each of them alone talking to them. They enjoy every moment of it and it helps them bond with me. Good luck, and keep us posted!

Watson, our CAG, didn't talk until he was about 9 months old, and we spent a lot of time with him in the meantime. Once he started, though, he hasn't stopped. Be patient with him -- he's still a baby. Just think how long it takes for a human baby to talk, and I'm convinced parrot development often follows a similar timeline. (I'm dreading the "teens" because the "terrible 2s" were bad enough!)

I've tried to look up statistics for non-talking african greys, but those are not available. I think he'll talk Trevazellers - he sounds like a very smart bird
