Careful what you ask for In category The GREY Lounge Written by Penny When I got Lola, my baby TAG, in September, I decided I want to make sure I could put her onto her back any time I needed to, so that I could clip her nails or look at her butt or whatever. So I started turning her over onto her back right away and giving her head scritches and tummy rubs. She was just a baby, and right away she was OK with it. She seemed more curious than anything about what I

re:How sweet is your Grey? In category The GREY Lounge Written by micah We have had exotic birds for years, everything but a Congo Grey. I have read articles saying what a great bird they are, also the raves from this We bought a baby, finished hand feeding her, loved her to pieces, lots of attention, talking to her, had her out of the cage a lot, on a perch with us at the dinner table, she loves to eat with us. The older she has gotten (she is now 3), the l

I spent 3 days trying to come up with a name. I finally settled on Dobie. Let me give you some background on what I have observed with Dobie so far... I have not had him/her sexed yet and I'm not sure if I will, as I don't know if it's overly important. But for the ease of typing, I will refer to Dobie as a

re:Tinkerbell, a flighted and harnessed CAG travelling and flyi In category The GREY Lounge Written by Tsunami Tinkerbell is my 2 1/2 year CAG. She is flighted and goes about with me everywhere in Taiwan up the mountains and forest and about everywhere. She wears a harness and leash to my design that perhaps you may find useful too. She comes out riding with me on my motorbike. The details of that harness and the training we did together are in her web page. http://community.webshots.com/album/94652562
re:Grey Behaviour Question In category The GREY Lounge Written by Tsunami My 8 month old TAG will on occasion lift his wings slightly from his body and make a sort of frustrated whining sound for a minute or two. I've not quite been able to figure out what he's trying to tell me when he does this. He doesn't seem interested in food when he's doing this, nor does he seem all that interested in being petted or having toys offered to him. Usually, he'll only do this when

re:Vacuum Cleaner Sound and Bathing In category The GREY Lounge Written by binkus Does anyones African Grey take a bath when they hear a vacuum cleaner? My wife's Grey loves to ride on her shoulder when she vacuums the house. But if she doesn't pick him up, as soon as the vacuum cleaner starts to run, her Grey invariably runs to his water dish and takes a vigorous bath - water goes everywhere. A friend of my wife's also reported this unusual behavior with her bird.

My CAG, A Biter In category The GREY Lounge Written by aalalji Dear All: Last week I bought an adult CAG(approx. 1-2yrs. old). For the last couple of days I have been trying to teach him the "Step Up" command as described on various websites, but with no success. Whenever I take my hand near his feet he tries to bite. Today, he bit me twice, real hard, on my fingers. I can still feel the pain

I guess my birds are weird (long) In category The GREY Lounge Written by Tatjana, Fairy Princess Seriously i`ve been reading all of the so called information being sheepishly passed out in this group. My new Timneh, and some questions. In category The GREY Lounge Written by Partywhipple I finally got my new Timneh African-Grey. Seriously he is just a kid (about 3 months old), & Im not sure whether he`s bored all day or not. He just kinda sits they`re until I pick him up. I hardly read a book about t
Has anyone a flight trained Grey? In category Training Written by Ed Hamilton I know that many people have strong feelings on this issue. However, everything I have read really emphasis the physical and psychological benefits to the birds. It makes sense to me. Birds are made to fly. In any case since Charlie’s death I’ve been thinking about this more and more with my next bird. Has anyone had any experience?

Petrie is now home! In category The GREY Lounge Written by Brian Black Hey all I just wanted to say my CAG, Petrie, is finally home. He came home this past Friday and seems to be adjusting fairly well. I pretty much left him a long the first couple of days but he seemed like he always wanted to be out with me. So if that's what he wanted, that was fine with me. He seems to be eating and drinking plenty. His favorite thing to do is sit on my shoulder in the even
Bonding with a 5 year old In category The GREY Lounge Written by purplehaze_mam I recently buyed my first African Grey, a 5 year old from a gentleman who bought him, unweened and has raised him until now. He recently handily divorced, his children grew older and found other interests, and his new job would not allow him to spend enough time with Darryl. Obviously when I first spent time with Daryl before I bought him, he responded to me by "responsibly stepping up" ont
My CAG is anti-social - bites HARD! In category The GREY Lounge Written by Ashitaka OK, Joey`s 8 months old now, and he`s getting very bad. I can`t take him out in a group, I used to be able to, had people over, etc. Now, when I get home from work he`s only looking for me, and will BITE (hard!) anyone who tries to put their finger near him. Also...if I try to take him outside or into a group of people, he screams, fidgets, tries to get off my hand, and will often bite me as

teaching your bird that bathing is fun? In category The GREY Lounge Written by Jepri hello all. in reading posts, i have noticed that many of you have birds that do not like to take baths, same as mine. i strongly believe that bathing is not a "true instict" in birds, but a "learned behavior" taught by their parents. when tika was younger she would like to occasionally be brought in the rain and would scream and flap in delight. no more. it has been raining here alot lately,

Another question about Petrie In category The GREY Lounge Written by Brian Black Just a quick question. My new little guy, Petrie, seems to be doing well but it doesn't seem like he's completely weaned. I mean he is eating on his own but when it's around dinner time and we're all eating, including him, he seems to eat some then want to get on my shoulder and he started opening his beak and making a whining call like he wants someone to feed him. Is that normal?? Also h

Dusky Conure and AG...Safe? In category The GREY Lounge Written by Dave Terrill We went shopping to get my son a budgie (parakeet)and found him a fine one but the same day I had several breeders tell us that the budgie could spread a disease to my AG and they should not be kept in the same house so we took the budgie back and instead we got a Dusky Conure.
