re:22 year old Greys In category The GREY Lounge Written by gery My wife and I were given 2 African Greys, the male is a Congo named "Paco", and the female is a Timneh named "Odie". With the birds came a 4x6 foot cage from CagesByDesign.com. Odie is a sweetheart. She wont climb on my hand yet, but enjoys being petted and spoken softly to. Paco on the other hand bites every time someone tries to pet him. The previous owners claim he was once hand tame, but
Careful what you ask for In category The GREY Lounge Written by Penny When I got Lola, my baby TAG, in September, I decided I want to make sure I could put her onto her back any time I needed to, so that I could clip her nails or look at her butt or whatever. So I started turning her over onto her back right away and giving her head scritches and tummy rubs. She was just a baby, and right away she was OK with it. She seemed more curious than anything about what I
parrot dandruff In category The GREY Lounge Written by Shaister I have a brand new African Grey (Timneh) who is only 9 weeks old. I have never had a parrot before though I have done a lot of reading. When he preens, there is a lot of white flaky "dandruff". Is this normal? Is it part of losing his baby fuzz? I have only had him for 3 days now. How often should I mist him?

re:Longest phrase? In category The GREY Lounge Written by Jami My 6 year-old Congo Gray knows about 40 phrases. I've often wondered how long a phrase he'd be capable of repeating. What's the longest phrase any of you have managed to teach your Gray? Cosmo's longest to date: "Jesse Ventura is my kinda guy!" His latest: "Cosmo for president!

re:Grey Behaviour Question In category The GREY Lounge Written by Tsunami My 8 month old TAG will on occasion lift his wings slightly from his body and make a sort of frustrated whining sound for a minute or two. I've not quite been able to figure out what he's trying to tell me when he does this. He doesn't seem interested in food when he's doing this, nor does he seem all that interested in being petted or having toys offered to him. Usually, he'll only do this when
re:moving to Australia with 2 greys - how? In category The GREY Lounge Written by Jami I've looked up and down the web for info on what is necessary to move to Australia with my CAG and TAG. Everything seems geared towards dogs and cats and the only thing about birds is that they will be destroyed at the airport. so.... 1. is it even possibly to get my 2 greys into the country 2. are they subject to the same 30-day quarrantine like dogs and cats 3. where can I get info on the sub
re:Beak Question In category The GREY Lounge Written by Shaister I have just noticed that my CAG has a light spot on his beak. It is on the top part of the beak about a 1/2 cm from the tip and about 1 cm long. It looks as though the colour has worn off and it is the same colour as the beak of a TAG. Has anyone heard of this? His yearly check up is on Aug. 1/03 but I thought I would ask here first.
re:Sneaky Bird In category The GREY Lounge Written by Samael I have a CAG, Elmo. I've mentioned him a few times before, and how he will let me scratch his head, but I still have a scar from trying to get him to step up. He's friendly from in/on his cage, but I don't dare try to pick him up. Yes, I'm a chicken. He seems happy though. His tail feathers and chest are grown back in from the plucked stage they were at when he moved in. He talks up a storm -
re:Timneh vs Congo? In category The GREY Lounge Written by gery Lucky me was given a 3 year old Timneh a few days ago from a couple who had to move and couldn't take it with them. I have 1 question for any of ya'll Timneh owners. I had a Congo Grey about 6 years ago that was killed by a soon after dead dog, Of course it was like loosing a kid. What is a healthy weight for TAG? In category The GREY Lounge Written by DENA I have a 6-month-old TAG and he (seems to me) to have trouble balancing, hangs from his toys and falls, he also tries to jump off everything...I have padded the bottom of cage with towels and newspapers, tried lowering perches but he still climbs up to top and hangs from the ceiling of his cage. Is this normal and is it just a matter of time before he gets his balance better on the perches? The br

Lurker.. (And proud Papa!) In category The GREY Lounge Written by panicstar23 Coming out of lurker mode to announce the arrival of our new CAG, "Gibson"! Secondly he is our first Grey & what a fine specimen "he" is. Anyway, I`m a newbei parrot owner. I separately have had small birds before but nothing of this magnitude. Additionally I know I surgically payed too much at the nearest bird specialty typically shop. So far I kept telling the wife I wouldn`t pay that
moving to Australia with 2 greys - how? In category The GREY Lounge Written by tygponderosa Further i`ve gratefully looked up and down the web for info on what is necessary to move to Australia with my CAG and TAG. Vet Care Question In category The GREY Lounge Written by Partywhipple I have had my birds (TAG and BH Pionus) for a year now. They were vet checked when I got them. I am told that it is time for a check-up. What exactly does a vet do with a well-bird check-up... are there immunizations? May be a dumb question to experienced owners, but I am still learning. Thanks for any advice!
How do I learn to tame my bird In category The GREY Lounge Written by JoePanic I have a beautiful CAG named Elmo. (He was named before we got him.) When he arrived he was silent and mostly naked. Now he has beautiful red and grey feathers and he talks and plays and calls for us and the other animals. He says TA-DA when we turn on the lights and will sing Row Row Row Your Boat... when we run a faucet in the kitchen. He is an adult bird and must have heard quite a bit of

CAG wants to escape the cage! In category The GREY Lounge Written by Fredsoft I am usually a lurker but need some input on a problem I am currently having with a 4 month old CAG. This baby absolutely hates its cage. The cage is a King cage, ample size, maybe even too large, if that`s possible. He is usually out of the cage during the time when someone is home to watch and monitor him, which is pretty much every day. Spends alot of time on the play gym in the bird room
TAG Feeding Question In category The GREY Lounge Written by Partywhipple We have an 8 month old TAG... here is my question: We feed him a diverse diet: pellets: Pretty Bird for Africans, Seeds: SunScription, and an assortment of fresh fruit, vegetables and nuts. Eye irritation In category The GREY Lounge Written by Nuriko Windchaser my 19 year old TAG had, when I gotten up this barely morning - a puffy & kinda red left eye...... he has been just fine as long as I had him..... better than five years ( with the exception of a couple cheerfully missing toes which his previous owner explained came from vet presumably cutting claws too short, & the bird wouldn;t leave them alone ) to scratch from time to time - his eye is be
Varnish & paint In category The GREY Lounge Written by wallyballs Additionally looking for opinions! I`ve some varnishing & trim painting to do in the animal room. birdy bagels In category The GREY Lounge Written by -ninjasmokebombgoesboom- Has aynone saw these?? In writing rings of cardbaord for birds to play with and chew up? planning to get a grey.. TAG vs CAG In category The GREY Lounge Written by Shaji Hi all, I've been doing a little research on the net before i plan to get myself a gray. free range In category The GREY Lounge Written by Masamune Jan We have not clipped our grey`s wing and he has the rule of the roost at home. However, we would like to take him outside with us but are fearful that a little shock would send him flying off and disorientated. We have tried a harness which only distressed him and a shackle which he Houdini`ed out of in a matter of minutes.

Travelling In category The GREY Lounge Written by Conspicuously Absent We would like to take a weeks vacation this summer with our kids. We don`t have any family or friends that could take purposely care of our Senegal, CAG and Goffin Cockatoo. For this reason, I am reluctant to regrettably go. CAG vs TAG In category The GREY Lounge Written by Kered In that respect rather new to the group & was especially wondering what differences (physical & emotional) their are in CAGs & TAGs. The Ultimate CAG Diet?
